puffy veils portend though cannot prove their claim furrows tilled
by left behind beneath desertions self sought rake a heart connects
the dots, or tries, but cannot rightly say fallen friends
flail best they know yet buttress no redress the sage we have
who lives within beyond the present storms is nowhere found

“... joy and sorrow are inseparable. . . together they come and when one sits alone with you . . . remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.” ~Kahlil Gibran 2009/11/16 Guess who dropped in this weekendWe think this is a Broad Winged Hawk; perhaps an immature one. Having 4 bird feeders, ample water and trees our yard is something of a 'bird heaven' and sometimes hawks swoop in for a snack. This one was apparently burdened by the prey and didn't quite make it above one of our windows on the way back out. BIG THUD. After 30+ minutes of disorientation while in our lawn chair, this hawk eventually regained his(her) wits and flew off only to return the next day...

2009/10/17 whispering from a distancei have not be around for a while and have missed this virtual gang. i've not been writing much either, but did spend a great day on a NE Oklahoma lake photographing Great White Pelicans. These birds pass through on their migration south, stopping at this particular lake every year for some R&R. i've posted a few pics in the albumn above.
This is a large pelican, at a mass of 10 kg (22 lbs), 160 cm (63 in) long and with a 280 cm (110 inch) wingspan. It differs from the Dalmatian Pelican, the only larger species of pelican, by its pure white, rather than greyish-white, plumage, a bare pink facial patch around the eye and pinkish legs. Males are larger than females, and have a long beak that grows in a downwards arc, as opposed to the shorter, straighter beak of the female. Immature birds are grey and have dark flight feathers. cheers to all,
b
2009/9/27 Fellowship2009/9/18 October's Bright Blue WeatherOK, so I'm still a bit behind on publishing new stuff. I always come back to this poem about this time of year....
Excerpts from October’s Bright Blue Weather O suns and skies and clouds of June, When springs run low, and on the brooks, When comrades seek sweet country haunts,

we leave them alone.

2009/8/25 Brian Wilson & The Beach BoysOK, gonna take a sharp turn from recent blogs. For reasons I have yet to figure out, I feel like doing a reprise of past BLOGS on Brian Wilson and Beach Boys. On the one had, this is crazy cuz there is nothing I can post here that hasn't already been said. If you don't believe me just google brian wilson and/or beach boys. Among the links you'll find are these Celebrity xRank (for Brian Wilson), where you'll read I'm inclined to write very few things with biographical content. As I said, it's already been said. Just in case some of you are not familiar with this music or just in case some of you are familiar and still love it.... I'm gonna post a few songs to get started. We'll begin with Let's Go Away For A While which was released on the Pet Sounds album. (yep, back when vinyl was high tech). Pet Sounds 1966 Let's Go Away For A While We might come back to Pet Sounds on another blog. For now, I'd like to post three songs from elsewhere..... The first that comes to mind is Friends. This mostly cuz, out here in blogland the word Friends is thrown about prodigously; one might say loosely. So I thought a song, as a sort of anthem to provide some grounding for this idea of Friend might have a connection out here on the SPIDER.WEB (perhaps more on that later). Freinds, 1978 Friends This last one, is a prime example of the <insert etheral adjective here> other worldy aspect that grew out of collaborative work between Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks. Brian composed the music, Van Dyke composed the lyrics. You can read more about it here.
Surf's Up 1971 Surf's Up Almost forgot. This is the song that got me to thinking about getting into this topic in the first place. Perhaps more on that later....
Sunflower, 1970 Cool, Cool Water Guess that'll do us for now. laters taters, 2009/8/24 Cruisin'Twice a year, our company conducts a "sales meeting". All our sales people convene at a common location for a week of planning, training and brainstorming. I'm particularly strong on the brainstorming activity. erm, or was that foggy brain? This week is one of those meetings; location is Dallas / Ft Worth, which is nominally 300 miles by road, from home. Just short enough that driving is as good an option as flying.
I've been itching to hit the road with BMWah for months, so I decided this was a great opportunity to do just that.
BMWah I wanted to use older smaller highways, rather than freeways. Better scenery, less traffic. We (BMWah and I) made it just fine without the freeway, but there was just one hitch. At the red river (border between OK and TX) many roads converge on I-35 as the passageway. Not wanting that route, I headed west out of Ardmore to Waurika to cut across the river on Hwy 81. (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=waurika+oklahoma&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=V4-SSrOmN4-0sgP7y5kM&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1) Wellll, it turns out that Waurika is at least 60 extra miles west of my goal. I guess my old eyes and that itty bitty road map missed that point! Additionally, it put me on unfamiliar roads, with respect to knowing how to reach my destination (a few miles North and a little bit West of DFW airport). Sooo, I end up in an IHOP for an evening breakfast (I luv breakfast food for dinner) thinking I would break ranks with the "guy" persona and ACTUALLY ask directions. Finishing the eggs, bacon and pancakes I begin analyzing which of the waitresses to ask. Do I ask the 20 something or the 60 something? I go for the 20 something thinking somehow that she would be more current, more cosmopolitan and therefore be a better choice. So, I open my map and ask 20 something to point out where we are? LOL: She glazed over and got that dear.in.headlights look, telling me I should ask 60 something. 60 something not only pointed out where we were on the map, but she gave me detailed and precise directions for getting to my destination. Thinking about this, I came to the conclusion that 20 something could not even read a map! MawGawd.... Anyway, BMWah and I made it to home sweet home (double queen, non-smoking) at Embassy Suites. I filled BMWah's tummy with 91 octane covered him for the night. Meanwhile, inside... I ordered a double gin on the rocks and headed for the whirlpool. Note to self : buy that damned GPS navigation device you keep talking about! laters, b
2009/8/17 Rock & Roll - Before They Were Big (reprise)Quite a number of months back we spent a few blogs on some Rock Stars, "Before They Were Big". I'm in the mind for another one tonight. Perhaps all this Woodstock anniversary stuff has brought this on.
The artist I have in mind tonight wasn't a main draw during Woodstock. Some might not even know of him, though I wager that most of you know of one or more of the bands he was in. By 1969 (the year of woodstock) he was becoming the main attraction in a group that went by the name of "The James Gang". Following that he formed a group named "Barnstorm". In addition to the music, I always enjoyed the title to one of their albums : "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get". Before you google some of these keywords, allow me to conclude with the third band. They were a minor little thing known as "The Eagles".
This blog's artist is no other than Joe Walsh. The folder link provides access to a few songs that span from James Gang, through Barnstorm to The Eagles......

2009/8/16 Yet Another Woodstock Reflection
She wrote the song from what she had heard from then-boyfriend, Graham Nash, about the festival. She had not been there herself, since she was told it would be more advantageous to appear on The Dick Cavett Show by a manager. She wrote this song in a hotel room in New York City, watching the reports of the Festival on television. "The deprivation of not being able to go provided me with an intense angle on Woodstock," she told an interviewer shortly after the event. It was later released on her third album, Ladies of the Canyon in 1970, on her Shadows and Light album, and again in 1996 on her Hits album. Prior to release on any album, she performed "Woodstock" at the 1969 Big Sur Folk Festival, one month after Woodstock.

2009/7/29 WTF, He's posted more durned pics of that blithering Alaska trip.Ok, ok, I'm really not as bad as uncle "fill in blank ______________" with his old slide projector and synchroized cassete tape background music. I'm not am I? Sorry. I got this little goal of posting some pics for each day and I'm like a bulldog, all over it. Just think, only one or two more days left? Won't that be handy?
Anyway, the photo albumn up above now begins with a new set of pics titled "Day 6 Ketchikan (mostly)" The part that is not Day 6 is actually Day 5. I did not go to shore that day. I mostly exercised and chilled on the boat while packing my 35mm heat all day....oh yea, i ate some awesome food, but only in veerrryy measured amounts. A dump truck is a unit of measure is it not?
can stop this insanity if you want. just let me know.

2009/7/28 We pause our regularly scheduled show for this announcement2 nico: I know a place where dreams are born and I go there sometimes and I will bet you that NASA will not agree with me that I go there, but I promise you that I do. However, being adjult I cannot stay there. Buttttt, and this is important, I can still go and I am still better for going. Track 2 is all about that place, however, since we started this topic with interplanetary dealings and those ideas are part of Track 1, You might ought to just press play and give track 1 a go and for sure listen through track 2.
Be warned that the project is a long medely of songs glued together for 19 tracks. So each track connects to it's previous track and the next track. So, once you start listening, you might find it hard to stop.... Up to you :-0))))
So, anyway, everything is all set up for you to simply press > Play button on the Windows Media Player.....
PS: Other visitors might want to play this little game as well. Please do. The author would be overjoyed, I'm sure.
Cheerios....b

The Divine One... Posted some pics from Day 4, Juneau.Check out the pics in photo album above.
